Graziher was founded to amplify the voices of women in rural and remote Australia. As such, we love featuring stories written by the Graziher community. We’re currently seeking all kinds of yarns for the website — anything that highlights the possibilities and challenges of life in rural Australia.
Your story might be a heartfelt reminiscence, it could be based on a recent experience, or perhaps it’s an opinion piece on something you feel strongly about. If you’re an academic or an expert in a particular field, you might have professional advice that will resonate with women living in country Australia.
If you have something in mind, send a 100-word pitch to our digital producer, Emma Mulholland (emma@graziher.com.au). Tell us who you are, where you’re based and why the subject you’re writing about matters. If you have photographs to accompany the story, send a couple with your pitch.
Is there a person out there who’s doing great work that we should all know about? A particular challenge that comes with rural living that no-one talks about? An experience that has filled you with hope and happiness, or regret and longing? If it’s the kind of story you know your friends would love, it’s likely to find an audience with Graziher readers.
To get a feel for the kind of thing we’re after, take a look at the People section on our website. A typical feature is about 800 words and while there’s no hard-and-fast rule about length, short and snappy is always best.
We’re not after product pitches. Or the words of ChatGPT. If you’re sharing your expertise, keep it simple (aim for one or two ideas) and explain your thoughts carefully. In this instance, we’re after contributions from the Graziher community rather than stories from journalists or professional writers (we have a separate commissioning process for these).
If you’re ready to share your big idea, send your pitch to Emma at emma@graziher.com.au.
