A power outage wasn’t going to derail Bridget and Charlie’s big day

Quick-thinking neighbours called a local electrician who saved the garden reception in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales.

Newlyweds Bridget Burns and Charlie Sykes.

When Bridget Burns and Charlie Sykes arrived at St Michael’s Cathedral in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, to say ‘I do’, there was a familiar face waiting for them at the altar.

“We were very fortunate to have Charlie’s uncle, Father Paddy Sykes, officiate the ceremony. It was so nice to have someone we know so well be such an important part of the day,” says Bridget.

After the ceremony, the bridal party and guests headed to Bridget’s childhood home for a night of singing and dancing. “My parents have worked hard to build the home and garden from scratch and my mum is an excellent gardener, so it
was a beautiful and special setting to celebrate the occasion with our nearest and dearest.”

A power outage just as the guests were arriving almost derailed the celebrations, but luckily a local electrician was only a quick phone call away. “We have wonderful neighbours who called their electrician son to save the day!” says Bridget.

Having all of their favourite people in the one place was a dream come true for the couple. “I just couldn’t believe that so many people had travelled to be there for us,” says Bridget. “Charlie is such a social person and he loved having so many people from different parts of our lives in one place.”

Chloe Mitchell shot this story under the direction of the main photographer, Heidi Morris.
